I am an innovative tutor who finds exciting ways to bring information to students. I don't believe that the cookie cutter ways of learning applies to all students. Therefore, I incorporate hands-on activities and relate information to real world experiences to ensure that all students grasp the material.
I am a certified 7-12 English teacher and have been teaching for 8 years. While I have spent the bulk of my years teaching 9th-12th grades, I have also taught 3rd-5th and college aged students. My passion for teaching made me switch from a legal career to one in education. I enjoy watching students succeed and have found that I have more of an impact as a teacher than I would have as a lawyer.
I enjoy the look on students' eyes when they finally have that "a ha! I've got it!" moment. The feeling of knowing that you've helped someone understand a concept that may have been a struggle to them is one of the greatest feelings in the world.
I enjoy knowing that I've made a difference in someone's life. I generally keep track of students after I've taught them in order to track their success.
Ms. Elliott was my 12th grade English teacher and I am a better student because of her. She pushes you beyond your comfort level just to prove that you can, in fact, succeed. Because of her strict but caring teaching style, I was able to test out of my first year English class in college. Not only this, she still keeps in touch with me just to make sure that I'm doing well.
