L. Michael Vesoulis, M.Ed., NBCT

Secondary Mathematics Teacher and Tutor

I hold a state teacher certification for teaching secondary mathematics (grades 6-12). In addition, I have a National Board Certification in the area of teaching Adolescent and Young Adulthood Mathematics.

I have an undergraduate degree in Management (Business) from the US Air Force Academy, and a master's degree in Secondary Mathematics Education from the University of South Alabama.

I have experience as a military officer (5 years), an actuarial analyst (2 years) and as a certified teacher (the last 8 years). I have much skill with mathematics always earning high marks (ACT = 35) and I love working with young people and making math come alive.

I am available for in-person and online tutoring sessions (via Zoom).

I love math and I love working with children, adolescents, and young adults.

Mr. Vesoulis is an outstanding teacher. I was his immediate supervisor when he taught AP Calculus and AP Statistics. He had the AP Qualifying Score rate in the entire county (29 schools). He is very organized, efficient, and reliable.

Mr. Vesoulis is very knowledgeable about the subject and is able to transfer that knowledge in a way that is easy to understand. He explains not only how things work but also why. In addition, he can relate the math problems to real-world scenarios that help with better comprehension of why we are learning a specific topic.

    Frequently asked questions

I first like to get a sense of where the student is in their math studies.  I ask questions about the course, general feelings about math, and specific questions about strengths and deficits.  Then I work with the student and/or parents to make a plan to remediate problem areas and build knowledge with guided practice.

State Teacher Certification, National Board Certification, 7-8 years experience teaching middle and high school, and of course being a parent myself

Generally, $75/hour depending on the difficulty of the subject, and the need to provide additional accomodations when necessary.  Multi-hour discounts and discounted prepaid packages of sessions available.

After I separated from the Air Force, I wanted to continue serving, but in a teaching capacity.  I love working with the youth and I love mathematics, so it was a simple choice.

I have worked with public and private school students of all ability levels, with and without accomodations.  My favorite subject matter to teach are Calculus and Statistics, but I am skilled with all levels of teaching math through the undergraduate level.

Qualifications are great, but try out several tutors and make sure that you find one that you like, can explain the material well, and cares about you as a person.

Students shouldn't be so quick to give up on problems, especially in mathematics.  Some level of struggle is necessary to grow in the subject.

Students should try to identify where they are having trouble to isolate that issue the best they can for the teacher; that way, the teacher can provide a more specific clarification and the student can press forward.
