About

๐Ÿ““๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“š

Hi, my name is Erin Ward. I have been teaching elementary school for ten years and absolutely love my job! Currently, I teach fourth grade, but I have taught primary (K-2) students as well. Whether your child's goal is learning to read, reading to learn, or looking to sharpen those math skills, I can do it all! I am trained in teaching phonics and reading acquisition, as well as critical thinking and reading comprehension. If your child is struggling with some of those โ€œnew mathโ€ strategies, I am comfortable breaking it down and building upon their prior knowledge to help make it click!

Location:

I am located in the Perry Hall area. We can meet at a library nearby or Iโ€™m open to home visits, depending on your location.

Education:

In 2013, I graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor's in Elementary Education. Last summer I obtained my Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in teaching English Language Learners (ESOL). I would love the opportunity to work with you and your family this summer or fall! I can tutor children from ages 4-16.

Working with children is my passion. From nannying, and summer camp jobs to certified teaching positions, I have over 13 years of experience. I believe that building positive relationships is the most powerful way to make a difference.

    Frequently asked questions

Before meeting with a new student, I gather as much information as I can including interests, academic strengths, preferred school subjects, areas of need, and any previously attempted interventions. During the first session, I aim to establish trust and comfortability with the student as well as get a baseline understanding of their ability level. We will play educational games, read books and passages, and answer a wide range or informal questions regarding the area of focus. I provide learning materials unless there is something specifically requested we work on, such as school homework.
