Hi! I'm Lilly. I'm a current medical student with a Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience (Biology), and a minor in Writing. Through my own many experiences in study groups and classes, I understand that great tutors do more than just talk! Through my years of tutoring, I've developed a tutoring style that better helps students. First, I encourage active participation/engagement by asking the student questions and having them explain their understanding in their own words. This helps prevent students from tuning out. Second, as a visual learner, I ensure that I present information in different ways that cater to the student's learning style. Online, this means combining my drawing tablet and sketches with relevant figures and texts. I also love using analogies and connecting content to real-world examples — I find it really helps students connect new things to things they already understand. Third, I set goals for each lesson and 'next steps' that students can take in their own time to keep making progress and stay on the right track. When leading MathCounts classes, this meant identifying main themes and problem solving techniques for each class. In one-on-one ACT and MCAT tutoring sessions, I've helped students identify weaknesses and develop study plans to focus on those specific issues.
