Language Arts Rock
About
I have loved reading my whole life, but not everyone does. Every student deserves to be successful and thrive; tutoring can provide support and accountability. I love to see students learn to appreciate reading and writing. I also have experience teaching grammar and since English is a conglomerate language it has plenty of tricks up its sleeves!
I believe language arts is the key to all other fields of study-even math has word problems! As much of my post-secondary education was completed online, I know online learning can be just as enjoyable as in-person. I have taught high school language arts in the Kansas public education system for three years. I am currently in my third year teaching middle school language arts at a home school enrichment center in Kansas that meets two days a week. I am licensed to teach language arts for grades 6-12 and have my masters of education degree.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
If we are focusing on writing we will employ a system I call data dumps to begin. I need a baseline of where the student is at and I don't want other influences affecting my evaluation. The student will write in sentences about whatever he or she wants for a time period (starting shorter and working up in duration).
For reading, I will begin by learning what the student is interested in. There are books about everything and if the student is interested in the topic it will make the experience more pleasant for them. Again I will need to form a baseline to see where we need to begin work and move on from there.
