Brandon House

I am a fourth-year Pre-Medicine and Neuroscience double major at the University of Dayton, with minors in Medicine and Society and Biological Research. I maintain a 3.2 GPA while actively conducting undergraduate research in a microbiology lab, where I study antimicrobial resistance and have been recognized in university publications for my work. I am also a certified Emergency Medical Technician, which has deepened my understanding of anatomy, physiology, and how to explain complex medical concepts in a way that is clear and approachable.

While I have not worked as a formal classroom teacher, I have spent years explaining science concepts informally to friends, classmates, and family members studying for exams in biology, chemistry, and anatomy. I also currently work as a Laboratory Technician and Lab Prep Assistant for the Biology Department at the University of Dayton, where part of my role involves helping introductory biology students understand lab procedures and concepts before and during their coursework. This experience has shown me how to break down difficult material for students who are seeing it for the first time, and how to adjust my explanations based on how someone learns best.

My approach to tutoring is patient, encouraging, and rooted in building a genuine understanding of the material rather than memorization. I believe science can be intimidating, especially subjects like chemistry, biology, anatomy, and neuroscience, but I find that walking through real world examples and connecting concepts to practical applications helps students retain information and build confidence. I am especially passionate about helping students who feel discouraged by science catch up and start to enjoy the subject. I am reliable, communicative, and committed to helping each student reach their specific goals, whether that is passing a class, preparing for an exam, or building a stronger foundation for future coursework.
