My students achieve. They gain understanding of what the operations actually accomplish enabling the student to best choose the proper operation when confronted with a word problem. Being a Special Education teacher I have developed many techniques that help the student quickly obtain grade level success. I have taught for over 20 years and have raised achievement scores for my students in math and LA. I have a Master's in Special Education and a Bachelor in Economics. Therefore, I'm endorsed in Math and Economics. Although I have no special endorsement in reading I have found that one's vocabulary is a strong indicator of one's ability to comprehend. Annotation while reading strongly supports comprehension as well. Most students shy away from annotation because it requires mental energy. As a tutor, I have felt the need to scaffold the student while they learn 'self-talk'. Even George Washington annotated!
