I explain concepts in a way that teachers don't. I use a lot of analogies and build up to advanced topics using simple ideas. By seeing math from this new perspective, my students are able to connect their intuition with the numbers, and the math suddenly becomes easy.
I really enjoy being able to help people understand things that were previously difficult for them. Math is just a way to ask and answer questions about the world around us, and I don't think the education system does a good job of presenting it that way.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to probe their undestanding of underlying concepts to see what's missing from their perspective that is preventing them from figuring out their problems.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor's in Physics (lots of advanced math) and a Master's in Financial Mathematics (lots more advanced math). Practicing these topics has led to me being an expert on the foundations, and allows me to make useful connections, and build to concepts from multiple directions.
How did you get started teaching?
Someone at work once mentioned something about struggling with an algebra class and I told them I could probably help them. After I was able to teach them with ease, I realized how satisfying it was to tutor and continued to look for more opportunities.
What types of students have you worked with?
Mostly 15-24. Students who are generally intelligent, but may struggle with difficult classes, or just aren't "math people."
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
If you look for a tutor whose experience teaching is from being a teacher, you may find that you just get more of the same instruction you get in school. If this instruction isn't working for you, I think that I can help.
