Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I begin with a fun activity so we can get to know each other! We then talk about what the student is learning and what they want to learn. From there, we review content the subject area, so I can better understand what the student needs help with.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I recently earned by BS in Elementary Education from Drake University. I am now pursuing my Masters in Applied Behavior Analysis at Drake University.
I was a content area tutor at Sylvan Learning Center for 2 years and have been a private tutor for 1 year.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $20 per hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I started tutoring three years ago because I love teaching & wanted to get experience as a pre-service teacher. From there, I realized that a scripted curriculum doesn't meet a lot of students where they're at. Additionally, I wanted to make sessions fun and engaging by bringing in students' interests and inquiries.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with a range of students from Kindergarten to 5th grade needing help with Math, Science, Language Arts, and Social Studies. Many of my students have IEPs in their subject area.
