About
I am an elementary trained teacher who has their Master's Degree in Elementary Education and a Doctorate in Education specializing in program evaluation in education with an emphasis on phenomenological studies. I have been teaching for over 15 years and some of the top private and public schools in the state of Hawaii. I have also been a private tutor for many families here for the past 10 years. Along with this I am also a college professor teaching education courses and have been a professional development coordinator for creating ongoing training for elementary education teachers in the area of math.
I specialize in elementary and middle school subjects and I have had the luxury of teaching in many different grade levels and students from different backgrounds. I have a passion for working with elementary students and finding creative ways to allow students to succeed in building their skills so they can better acclimate into the classroom in transferring their skills to different situations.
I have a passion for math and have loved teaching it in my classroom for the past 15 years. I have also taught college level courses teaching Master's level students how to also translate their thinking into building effective strategies to teach and assess elementary and middle school children in all of the core subject areas while integrating them together in the classroom. Besides tutoring I have also been a Math Coordinator for Punahou School.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Generally I would do an analysis of my student to see what areas they would want to build their skills on and provide a diagnostic exam. After doing so we would build a skills building program where we would start to tackle and build their skills so they can be successful in the learning concepts that best matches with their school.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Master's degree in Elementary Education and a Doctorate in education as well. I have 15 years of teaching experience under my belt at some of the most presigious public and private schools on Oahu.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Yes generally I do have set rates for working with students at $55 for private tutoring.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching 15 years ago when I started my eduational program and since then I have taken on many different roles and jobs and a few schools.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students ranging from pre-school all the way up to college and adults wanting to learn new skills to help them in their life skills.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
What I would like to let parents know is that they need to find someone who knows how to manage and work with students and learn how to motivate them to be better students and learners. When picking the right tutor they need to know standards and expectations when they work with your child in improving their skills and know what is expected of them not only in their current grade but also how to push them forward and move them ahead.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should look at their needs as well as their goals in working with teachers so they can explain what they want out of the tutoring sessions and how the tutor can best help them.
