Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I ask what the main concern area is, and I watch them do a couple of problems to see where they might be going wrong. I help with some foundational knowledge and help each student discover their strengths.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I trained in a teacher trainin program, in addition to bachelor's in math and master's in math education. I have taught at a number of schools in the middle school and high school level. I have worked at several tutoring centers , taught groups and one-on-one. I have also taught in person and virtually.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $50 for a one hour virtual session, $37 for a 45 minute session and $25 for a thirty minute session. These sessions are for one student at a time.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching by tutoring at the math lab while in college getting my bachelor's degree.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with middle school, high school and college level students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently had a student I tutored relay to me that she met her goal score of 35 on the ACT math and science. She was very happy and could not wait to let me know.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would say to anyone looking for a tutor to do research by looking at several choices and picking one that fits the profile of what they need. If the session or tutor does not seem like a good fit due to personality or something else, search again until they find a good fit for them
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
The student should have a clear understanding of what they need help with, and also have a goal of what they might want out of the session. They can ask for help with this from the tutor.
