Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I first prefer to get to know them, letting them describe their style of learning, troubles with the material, personality, and what they think works best for them.
After, I give them a few practise problems, or preferably have them do material that is given to them by the course, analysing how they approach problems and how they think (especially helpful in math). If they cannot solve it, I ask them to try to explain what they're thinking (which numerous studies have shown to be immensely helpful in both learning and solving the problem, often they solve it by themselves after this).
After the diagnosis stage, I analyse the results and find the optimal way to explain concepts and most appropriate practise problems for them to do.
