Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to start by asking them about what they hope to get out of tutoring, whether it be going through example problems, me explaining concepts, or reviewing past homeworks and tests. I also like getting to know my students and what their previous experiences with math have been.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am studying mathematics at Georgia Tech and have previous tutoring experience! I also hope to one day be a high school math teacher and love working with kids and teens.
How did you get started teaching?
I was a teaching assistant for my high school advanced physics class and learned I love teaching! I have also done tutoring with high schoolers for the past year and love it!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have tutored high schoolers but have also babysat and lead weekly church Sunday school classes for elementary and middle school students.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would say to not feel pressure to love the first person you work with. It can be diffuclt to find the right match on the first try, and don't be afriad to try two or three tutors before deciding on one to stay with because finding a great match is really helpful!! Also, be sure to find someone who you respect and who respects you and doesn't talk down to you in any way.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What do you want out of this tutoring? Is this something you are planning on doing long term or just once or twice? How can you supplement the tutoring in your own time?
