    Frequently asked questions

The most important thing for working with a new student is making sure they are comfortable. This is because I need my students to be comfortable asking me questions when there is something they don't understand, need clarity on, or if they need a quick break. I also need my students to be comfortable talking to me as when I tutor I like to ask my students questions to keep them engaged and make sure they are following along and understading the topic and process.

I am currently enrolled at FSU pursuing an undergraduate degree in Chemical-Materials Engineering. I work at ACE (Academic Centre for Excellence) at FSU which is a peer-based tutoring service offered by FSU. I work specifically in the Math Studio which is drop-in tutoring meaning students can walk in during any of our business hours and recieve math help. I currently teach everything from Algebra to Calculus with Analytical Geometry II. I have been working at the Math Studio for two years.

My first semester at FSU, my math teacher who is also the supervisor of the ACE Math Studio and its tutors, asked if there was anyone who was interested in becoming a tutor. I have always liked helping people and I owe a lot of my academic success to the tutors I've had in the past, that I was very interested in becoming a tutor. I have absolutely loved my job ever since and can't see myself doing any other job during my time at FSU. I have even added an education minor onto my undergraduate degree.

I have worked with primarily college students at FSU.

Make sure you are comfortable with your tutor because you will only do well if you are willing to work with your tutor and ask questions. You'll only do well if you put in the effort to get yourself into a learning headspace.
