Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Our process is simple. We start with a quick phone consult to understand your child's needs. After this, we place you with who we believe will be the best tutor to help your child be most successful. Then, we get to work.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Each of our teachers is certified and has spent many years teaching in the classroom. The majority of our teachers are still classroom teachers.
The minimum requirement to work with Engaged Academics is a bachelor's degree and teacher certification.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Most of our online tutoring rates are $40. Advanced mathematics and AP classes are more.
How did you get started teaching?
After spending many years as a licensed electrical contractor, I was seeking more fulfillment from my career. This lack of satisfaction led to me taking some education courses and falling in love with the craft. I complete a bachelor's in education and also a Master's in Educational Phycology, specifically ISLT. ISLT stands for Instructional Systems and Learning Technologies.
After teaching several years in the classroom, I craved making a more substantial impact with students by identifying critical areas of concern and then closing those gaps to create greater academic success.
What types of students have you worked with?
We work with students in grades K-12. It does not matter if the student is ESE, Autistic, defiant, or has any other diverse learning need, we can help.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I highly recommend hiring a teacher and not a tutor. A teacher can more rapidly assess and close the academic gap due to their training and understanding of how people learn.
