About

Here at the School of Eglinton we allow children to utilize their full potential. We make sure that a child understands they are more than just a data point on a spreadsheet. Intelligence cannot be measured by a standardized test. Imagine a school year where you only learn how to take 1-3 high stakes test at the end of the year. All the while you are given subtests on material you should have mastered in 3-5 days. The school districts have pacing guides, these guides tell the teachers what to teach, how to teach it, and how long to teach it for. There is no more chance for creativity. There's no time, the test is coming and every instructional minute must be utilized or the sky is going to fall-

STOP.

This is fear mongering. Scare tactics and pressure do not motivate people, they scare. Teaching has gone from a creative independence to puppeteering. What happened?! Where are the loving/fun/creative teachers we all used to remember? The American Education system adopted common core (I guess common sense is highly overrated). Common Core, America's most common problem. Research has shown schools that drop common core have exploded in growth and have reached their goals faster (probably why our governor abolished it earlier this year). Parents I know, I hear you! IT is frustrating. YOU are frustrated! This is not math. American Education has never been so low since the introduction of common core.

Here at this school:

We teach to the students needs not to the districts.

The Fundamentals/basics (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)

Improve comprehension (what to look for, check for understanding, how to solve)

Teach students techniques to de stress.

We care about the learning, not some worthless school grade.

In today's society, if your student doesn't understand, don't worry; they will pass them through the system now a year behind rather than on grade level. The cycle will repeat itself the next year. This is why your child struggles, they don't understand the basic underlying principles to do next years work. The cycle must be broken and you can break it. I come from public, charter, and private sectors and have seen principals push students through because "they don't want them in the school anymore." We have seen this happen first hand. The teachers are inhibited to provide your child with what they need due to restrictions that are being forced on them from administration/districts/state departments. When they want to do something for your children, guess what? It gets rejected. I've had countless rejections of programs that will help benefit the students and have been denied due to already having "effective programs." If they were effective, public schools districts wouldn't be failing.

Let's be honest. Standardized testing is a joke. The FSA is a horrible form of assessment. It is painfully long, anxiety inducing, and strategically put in place to make sure your child feels completely incompetent. What would I do for my child? Make sure they learn what they need. In elementary they need basic fundamentals in order to learn. Opt out of standardized testing. Take control of what your student needs to learn. Fight and stand to show that your children will not be lab mice anymore. Be the change you want to see in the world. Fight for what you believe in. To the testmakers your child is a data point on an excel spreadsheet. They care more about their jobs/money than your children. Your children are worth more to this Country. Their energy and time should not be wasted. Your children have their own identity and are full of potential. Allow them to see how intelligent they really are.

We pull no punches. We are honest educators. We make sure that your child's needs come before our own. They will flourish in math as well as improving comprehension. Especially when it comes to those pesky word problems. Save yourself some stress and allow your child to experience what learning really is.

Instructors and future instructors will be certified in Education to insure your child is receiving the best of the best. This is our promise to you.

Frequently asked questions

Working with a new student always starts with building a relationship of trust with the student and the parents. I believe that figuring out what the students weaknesses and strengths are relating to a subject. usually you can show the students that their strengths can help them overcome their weaknesses. Usually it is just finding a strategy that will help you most past the obstacle.

I have been a classroom teacher for the past 4-6 years, working with every grade level in Connecticut and Florida. I am certified in both states, and have achieved effective and highly effective status in Florida. This school year I was selected as a Golden Apple Recipient Nominee in Lee County.

I have worked with children of disabilities as well as inner city. Outside of school I have tutored and worked with children for 8 years prior to becoming a school teacher.

My Aunt Susie was a school teacher in both New York and North Carolina. She unfortunately developed cancer and was unable to come back into the profession. I felt a calling ever since to move into the field of Education and help revamp the system.

I have worked with students with all levels of autism, aspergers, and other learning impairments.

I have worked in the inner city sector for the last 3 years.

Make sure the teacher/instructor remembers what it is like to be a student and struggle with something they didn't understand.

I believe that students can find the answers as to why they struggle. You just have to find a teacher that believes as much as you do.

Students need to ask themselves, "What is the problem? What is causing the inability to understand this concept?"
