About

Hello! I'm Kiarra, founder of Work Smart, Be Smart Tutoring, and I've been helping students succeed for over 10 years.

I hold both a Bachelor's and Master's degree from the Academy of Art University and am currently pursuing my Doctorate in Educational Leadership. I also have experience teaching at the college level, which has strengthened my ability to explain complex concepts in ways that are practical, engaging, and easy to understand.

Throughout my career, I've worked with students from elementary school through adulthood in a variety of educational settings. One of the most rewarding parts of my work has been supporting students with diverse learning needs, including ADHD, executive functioning challenges, autism, dyslexia, and other learning differences. Those experiences have reinforced something I strongly believe: every student is capable of learning when they're taught in a way that works for them.

Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, I tailor every lesson to each student's strengths, goals, and learning style. Whether a student needs to strengthen foundational skills, prepare for an important exam, improve grades, or simply rebuild confidence after struggling in school, I create individualized lessons designed to help them make meaningful, lasting progress.

Today, I work with elementary, middle school, high school, college, and adult learners, with a particular focus on mathematics, including Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and College Algebra. Beyond simply helping students complete assignments, my goal is to help them understand why concepts work so they become confident, independent learners.

All tutoring sessions are conducted virtually using interactive online tools that make learning collaborative, engaging, and highly effective. Virtual tutoring also allows me to serve students regardless of location while providing a flexible and personalized learning experience.

If you're looking for an experienced, patient, and encouraging educator who is committed to helping students build confidence and achieve their academic goals, I'd love the opportunity to work with you.

Kiarra has been the help we needed when my son was really struggling in school. She takes time to understand his needs and learn his personality to be able to better approach his learning style. You can tell she truly cares about what she does and that the goal is to help kids. She’s super understanding of parent and financial situations as well. When we got to the end of the school year and we had a few make up sessions, she assured me we’d be able to pick it right back up once school started again. Very flexible with time and will always ensure you get exactly what you and your child needs if not more. Would absolutely recommend her time and time again!

Kiarra is a great tutor! We have been working together for the past 8 months. She really reinforces concepts to ensure that you understand. She is also very patient and can explain complex topics using natural language that anyone can understand! When I am struggling with a concept, she uses real-world examples to help me understand it. She is very flexible and works with her students to coordinate availability and frequency. I highly recommend her to anyone who is looking for a tutor or is even thinking about going to tutoring!

Frequently asked questions

Every student starts with a conversation about their goals, challenges, and previous experiences with the subject. During our first session, I assess their current understanding to identify both strengths and learning gaps. From there, I create a personalized plan that focuses on building confidence while mastering the concepts they need most. As we work together, I regularly adjust our lessons based on the student's progress so they continue improving at a pace that works for them.
I have over a decade of tutoring experience working with elementary, middle school, high school, college, and adult learners. I specialize in mathematics, including Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and College Algebra, while also supporting students in many other academic subjects. Throughout my career, I've worked with students of all ability levels, including those with ADHD and other learning differences, and I focus on adapting my teaching style to each individual's needs.
My passion for teaching started long before it became my profession. As the oldest sibling, I was often helping my brothers and sisters with homework and explaining concepts in ways that made sense to them. Seeing that moment when someone finally understands something they once struggled with inspired me to continue tutoring. Over the years, that passion has grown into helping students of all ages build confidence, overcome academic challenges, and achieve goals they once thought were out of reach.
I've worked with students ranging from early elementary school through adulthood, including traditional students, homeschool families, college students, adult learners, and individuals preparing for exams such as the GED. I also have experience working with students who have ADHD, executive functioning challenges, learning differences, and math anxiety. Every student learns differently, so I tailor my teaching approach to fit their individual learning style and goals.
One of my favorite recent moments was watching a student solve a difficult math problem completely on their own after weeks of building the foundational skills together. Seeing that confidence grow—and hearing them say, "I actually get it now!"—is one of the most rewarding parts of being a tutor. Those breakthrough moments remind me why I love what I do.
Look for a tutor who takes the time to understand how you learn instead of simply giving you answers. The best tutoring isn't about getting through homework—it's about building the skills and confidence needed to succeed independently. Don't be afraid to ask how a tutor personalizes lessons and measures progress over time.
Before reaching out, think about what you're hoping to accomplish. Are you trying to improve your grades, prepare for a test, build stronger study habits, or finally understand concepts that have been frustrating? It's also helpful to identify which topics feel the most challenging and how you learn best. The more information you can share, the easier it is for a tutor to create a plan that's tailored to your goals.
