I love helping children be successful and having them become proud of their success. I believe that every child can learn. Each child is an individual with strengths and weaknesses. I use these strengths to help overcome the weaknesses in learning. I have tutored students from kindergarten through middle school in all subjects, but I love writing and reading most of all.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We begin by writing a piece about something they like to do. That way, I can see what they need to work on. Every child has different writing abilities. I screen them as we work. to make sure I know they feel comfortable working with me. Each step bridges the gap of writing as one would put together a puzzle. The student begins to feel very successful in the eighth week. Once they understand the writing process, it becomes very clear how to put together their words, sentences, and feel very secure in doing so.

My son started this class not being able to read but the most simple words and he has progressed so far in the past 12 weeks! He is now reading much more complex words and his confidence has increased so much! Ms. Perkins is so patient with him and comes up with new and fun ideas for each class so it stays exciting. Would absolutely recommend this class!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a Writing Specialist, so I was hired to teach 5th grade Writing for ALL the fith grade so they could pass their TCAP Testing. Should they have failed, they would have had to remain in fifth grade. I was one of the group of teachers who were selected to grade the students State MANDATED TEST. This sets me apart from most other writing teachers. I am considered highly qualifyied in technical writing.

How did you get started teaching?
I found my goal to become a teacher when I was a Junior in high school. Teaching has been the only job I have ever had. My students are important to me and I believe my students felt the same way about me. People say I have a gift working with young people. Well, I believe they are right. Helping the children gain confidence is important to me.
What types of students have you worked with?
Throughout the years, I have had the privilege to work with many types of students. Those who struggle with Reading and Writing, Dyslexia learners, Special Ed Students as well as Gifted. My students range from Grade 1 to 12th as well as Teaching a College Level course. I am willing to work with all students who need my expertise.
