I seek to provide a fun and interactive learning experience for my students. Through my enthusiasm and positive attitude combined with my knowledge in the math and computer science fields, I strive to help my students go above and beyond their academic requirements in these areas. I pride myself on not only having the math and computer science experience needed to tutor students but most importantly the communication skills and patience required as a tutor.

I enjoy seeing growth and development with the students I work with. Drawing back to my previous experiences as a tutor within my university, I've observed how certain subjects might come as easy as other ones for students. Although this might be the case, these students can certainly become advanced in these areas with the proper guidance and a positive attitude. My goal is to help these students get there.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

When working with a new student, I try to first establish trust with the student. As a tutor, I have to get the student to accept my teaching methods and be willing to learn from me first. I attempt to do this by having a line of open communication. I like to break down problems step by step and understand the thought process of the student before I can help them.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have completed my undergraduate degree in computer science and I have stared a masters degree in the same area as well. With regards to programming, I am proficient in C++, Java, and Python. I am extremely experienced in math as I have taken courses all the way up to multi variable calculus, differential equations, and linear algebra. Another crucial factor that relates to teaching is my experience as a college athlete. As a 4 year NCAA collegiate athlete, working in a team as provided me valuable leadership and communication skills that translate to teaching.

How did you get started teaching?

I got started teaching through being a tutor at the Center for Academic Services and Advising at my college. There I learned how to work with different types of learners and grow their interests in math and computer science.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

I would recommend that students make sure they are comfortable with their tutor. In other words, a lot of tutors are knowledgeable and advanced in their subjects but that doesn't necessarily mean they can help you grow as a student. Find a tutor that makes learning worthwhile and enjoyable!
