My service stands out because I am also a licensed teacher. I take all the skills and techniques I have learned in the classroom and use them with my tutees - it's really fun for me. I've taught math, English, science, and social studies at middle school and high school levels, so I use strategies from all of these subject areas.

I'm passionate about test prep. It is the make or break skill that helped me get into Notre Dame and Columbia. It often decides whether your child will attend a top university (or the university of their choice) or a different school.
The best part about it is that it is a learned skill. Starting as early as 6th grade, students can get better at taking tests. It is the language of competency in modern education (for better or worse). They can begin to strategize, understsnd the test-writers purpose for questions, and implement their own reasoning processes.
Finally, I love helping people learn new things, because I love learning myself. I tutor math, English, essay writing, and reading comprehension at the K-12 and early college level. My undergraduate degree was in liberal arts and mathematics, with classes in economics and German. I love topics across all subjects; English, reading, literature, math, science, economics, history, Western philosophy, theology, Eastern philosophy.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I want student to send me specific problems, writing prompts, or questions they struggle with. From there, we work toward addressing larger gaps in learning.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential in the state of California, and have taught in the classroom for two-and-a-half years. My undergraduate education was in liberal arts and mathematics, and I have interests across both topis.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Lessons are $20/hour, regardless of topic.
How did you get started teaching?
I knew my freshman year in college that I wanted to teach in high-need schools. After I graduated, I began teaching in a high-need middle school in the Bay Area, and have done that ever since. I went to a high-need high school, and I want give my students the confidence and the skills to be competitive in college and in the job market. I also want to instill a love of learning in my students.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have primarily worked with students from 6th grade through the college level. I have worked with K-5 students for short periods of time.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Pick a tutor in your subject area, attend several sessions, put in your best effort, and then decide if you want to continue.
