An experienced and accomplished professional with a desire to enthuse and inspire all students, regardless of their background. I am passionate about English Literature and believe in the power of words to take every student on a journey, whilst also providing them with the fundamental skills to become articulate, eloquent, critical young adults. Within my 11 years’ teaching experience, I have worked in three highly successful schools where I have built up a diverse range of experience along with a significant depth of subject knowledge. I am passionate about teaching and learning, and am at the forefront of implementing innovative strategies in the classroom. In my management positions, I have led English departments for MYP and across departments for whole school literacy
In my teaching practice I strive to create lessons that stretch and challenge all students, are personalised to each individual, and foster an ability to think critically whilst becoming an independent learner. The principles of establishing a growth-mindset for students are therefore fundamental to my lessons and explicit within my teaching practice. Furthermore, I take particular pride in my use of personalised learning.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When starting work with new students I like to get to know their strengths and weaknesses first of all. By setting them a reading and writing task, I can then work with the students to see where their gaps in knowledge and skills are. From that we are able to talk about possible focuses for the next lessons, in order to ensure that the student feels they are making progress.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a qualified British High School English Teacher. Prior to my teacher training I gained my BA (hons) degree in English Literature. I have been a teacher for 11 years, working mostly in the British Curriculum. However, I am currently working at a school now teaching the International Baccalaureate.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
As an experienced and fully qualified teacher, for a 1hour private tutoring session I charge $50. However, my going rate for students who are willing to travel to me is $40.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching TEFL in Costa Rica around 13 years ago. I enjoyed the challenge, enjoyment and buzz of being in the classroom, so I decided to gain my British teaching qualification.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with an incredibly wide variety of students. I have always taught students from the age of 11 - 18 years old. I have experience working with SEN students as well as students who are gifted and talented for English.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Ensure you have a good dialogue with your tutor, so that you are both on the same page in terms of expectations and what you will get out of the sessions.
