Karen Tseng

Hi! My name is Karen and I am currently a 4th grade teacher in the Sunnyvale School District. In addition to teaching 4th grade, I also have experience teaching Preschool, Kindergarten, and 3rd grade. I have a Masters in Education and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from San Jose State University, and a Bachelor's in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in mathematics from San Diego State University. I have worked with a diverse population of students in K-5 and I am familiar with the Common Core Standards to ensure the best education for your child(ren) that is aligned with what they learn in school.

Throughout my teaching career, I have taught on Zoom during Distance Learning, as well as teaching in person. No matter teaching in person or online, I have found many strategies that worked for my students and know how to provide effective instruction and keep students engaged and excited to learn. I will work with you to see which subject areas we need to focus on for your child(ren), and figure out which teaching strategies work best for them. I like to first see what they can or cannot do independently, then from there make lesson plans and set goals for them to meet. I can provide grade level help for them to meet standards, or preview what's to come for the next year.

I have an emphasis in mathematics instruction, and throughout my experience as a teacher, I work with small groups of students and one on one to provide math help that best fit the students' needs.

When I taught preschool and kindergarten, phonics was the majority of literacy instruction so I am very familiar with phonics instruction and curriculum. I worked with them in naming letters, letter sounds, blending sounds, vowel teams, reading sight words, and expanding their vocabulary.
