Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First understand students goal and understand his/her method to approaching them. Then devise a plan specific to student that helps optimize his/her success. For example some students understand better by incrmentally solving problems and thus learning concepts, while other students like an overview of the different ideas before they attempt problems. Understanding each students individual approach is very important for getting good results.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Princeton Review Tutor (4 years SAT Math)
UCI PhD Student (Certified by UCI to teach graduate and undergraduate courses at a university level)
Currently have taught over 6 undergraduate and graduate courses at University of California, Irvine
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I like to keep my prices negotiable since I understand each student is different and requires different level of attention. Send me a message and we can work out a price that you think is comfortable. I offer the first session free so you don't have to commit to something you don't like.
How did you get started teaching?
I've been teaching since I was in high school. I love to see students understand things that they once thought were hard. I strongly believe that math is only hard because the person teaching it did not explain it well. I try to teach to help improve this perception and show that math and computer science can be quite enjoyable.
What types of students have you worked with?
High School Students while teaching at Princeton Review
Undergraduate and Graduate Students as a Teaching Instructor at UCI
Middle School Students as a private tutor during high school
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Check and make sure the teacher you hire is someone you would like to work with. Otherwise it becomes miserable and sessions become a chore instead of something to look forward to.
