About
Most students don’t struggle with all of math, just a few missing links that quietly derail everything else.
Those small gaps (fractions, equations, functions, geometry ideas, and core calculus skills) become big headaches: slow homework, shaky quizzes, and test anxiety that turns tiny mistakes into lost points.
If gaps linger, confidence dips while class keeps moving. Parents try “more practice,” students feel more pressure, and a capable learner starts to think they’re “not a math person.”
I rebuild understanding from the exact point of confusion outward: targeted diagnostics, clear micro-lessons, guided practice, and simple routines for home. Students leave each session knowing what to do, why it works, and how to repeat it on their own.
WHAT I’LL DO (THAT MOST TUTORS DON’T),
My approach goes beyond homework help to create repeatable success. I work on high-leverage skills and routines that many standard tutors miss:
• Targeted Diagnostic: A low-stress check to quickly pinpoint the exact foundational skills blocking progress, ensuring every minute of tutoring is productive.
• Correction cycle: An efficient method to turn "careless errors" into points regained on future quizzes and tests.
• Structured Test Routines: Techniques like "First-Pass/Second-Pass" to manage time, accuracy, and anxiety during quizzes, midterms, and finals.
• Pattern Recognition: Training the student's eye to spot the handful of core mathematical forms that appear across seemingly different problems.
ABOUT ME
• PhD in Electrical Engineering (rigorous math background; I simplify hard ideas without dumbing them down)
• 20+ years tutoring, in person, across middle school, high school, and college courses
• Long-term relationships with local families and adult learners
SUBJECTS I TUTOR
• Middle School: Grades 6–8 math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra readiness, problem-solving
• High School: Algebra I and II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus (AB/BC)
• College: College Algebra, Calculus I/II/III, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Introductory Statistics, math refreshers for STEM courses
• Assessments (as needed): quizzes, unit tests, midterms/finals, placement exams, and general standardized math tests
RECENT WINS (SAN DIEGO — ALL LEVELS)
• Middle School: 8th-grade Pre-Algebra course grade improved from C- (72%) to B+ (89%) over one semester by mastering linear functions and equation solving.
• High School: Algebra I quiz 68 to 86 in 2 weeks; Geometry unit test 72 to 91 in 3 weeks; Pre-Calc semester grade from C+ to A-
• College: Calculus I midterm 58 to 84 by next exam; Linear Algebra proofs improved from “partial” to full credit using a structured write-up template; returning adult learner passed Statistics after two prior withdrawals
