About

I am a high school Biology Education major and am currently on my way to applying to Cal State Long Beach for my Bachelor's degree. I graduated high school with a 3.9 GPA and have recieved A's in most of the college courses I've taken including Biology, Anatomy, Microbiology, Statistics, English Comprehension, Public Speaking, and more. I currently help homeschool my younger sister (5th grade) and form study groups in my college courses to help explain complex concepts. I also am a leader in my church, weekly instructing children grades K-6 and have directed a children's musical there for the past 3 years for the same age group. I have over 10 years of experience in theater (acting, stage managing, directing, etc.) so I understand the importance of managing your time, energy, and focus on what is most vital to do and learn as well as how help from others can make a huge difference in one's success. I also had the opportunity to teach an in-class, high school Theater Arts course through a homeschool program during the Fall 2019 semester. I enjoy working with all ages of students and can effectively tailor their tutoring to their age, grade, and personal learning style. It is my goal to help a student truly understand the concepts they are learning in a way where they can best apply and utilize it in the future, whether that be for the next tutoring session, class, or grade. I realize that in a busy public school class room it is difficult to make sure that every student has mastered the content before moving on and building upon it. Without a firm foundation, this can make school frustrating for both child and parent. I will assess your student for gaps in knowledge as a starting point in order to best help them grasp any and all concepts needed to prepare them for the coming school year. Your students plan will always be discussed with you, the parent as your involvement is vital for their success as well. I look forward to working with your child and help building their confidence in their own abilities!

    Frequently asked questions

I begin with building rapport and getting an idea of the student's individual learning style. I then begin to assess for gaps in learning. This includes discussion with caregiver and child. When working on specific subjects, I begin by discussing the foundational concepts that the topic encompasses to fill in any important gaps the student does not feel confident in. Once I feel they understand the concepts, I will work through any given homework with them, helping them along the way as needed. As their confidence in the topic grows, I will lessen the help I give to encourage them in their own abilities. I will not let them struggle through problems in frustration, but will give helpful information to push them in the right direction until they are able to navigate the topic completely and confidently on their own. I will help them master the topic, digging in deep to give them inderstanding rather than at surface level.

Has a high school diploma with a 3.9 GPA and about to receive an AA in Lib Arts: Science at Golden West College with a 3.86 GPA. Transferring to Cal State Long Beach for a high school Biology Education Degree.

Taught an in-class high school Theater Arts course at a homeschool program (2019-2020).

Led ages K-6 grade children at church for the past 8 years, taking on a mentor role as well (2012-present).

    Directed 3 children's musicals, ages K-6 (2017-present).

Organized a profitable, one week, Kid's Theater Summer Camp where basic concepts of theater and acting were taught to students K-8. Games, lectures, exersizes, and performances were used to effectively teach concepts to all ages present. Recieved great reviews from parents and requests to offer again the following Summer (2019).

$25 an hour or $20 an hour with a minimum of two hours scheduled. In my experience with tutoring kids, an hour is not quite enough time to dig in deep. Just as the student is grasping a concept is usually when it is time to end the session and I would like to ensure that an opportunity for them to learn to the best of their ability is not missed. Please note that if I am traveling to you, a $5 charge for gas will be added.

Since junior high, I have had a leadership role at my church. During this time, I have always enjoyed helping children feel confident in their own abilities, beliefs, and personalities. I love to see the excitement that students get when they not only understand a concept, but find so much enjoyment in it. I have always felt that students who characterize themselves by hating School have not been given the necessary tools, opportunity, and attention needed to truly understand and grasp the concepts taught. This leaves them frustrated and resentful, having to deal with these feelings almost every weekday of their childhood. It also sets the tone for, not only the foundation of their educational career, but their educational confidence as they grow. I believe that, if taught in an effective and personal way, students will be more successful in their learning and, consequently, more motivated to continue learning with confidence, personal satisfaction, and pride in their abilities.

I have worked with students grades K-12. Although I do not speak spanish, I have worked with ESL students in the past. I have worked with students with learning disabilities who are years behind their reading level, have low reading comprehension, and who struggle with following simple directions. I have also worked with difficult students with attitudes as well as students who are well adapted and eager to learn.

Personally, one recent event that I am fond of was the producing and directing of our church's children's musical. All of the kids involved love the process and it is so fun to work with them on something that they don't normally get the chance to do. It is also a great experience collaborating with my team of leaders as well as the kids' parents on things such as choreography, costumes, and solos. We have had to pause production due to COVID-19, however, we are very excited to start back up whenever quarantine ends.

Come with a good attitude, ready to learn, and open to being taught. School can be fun and enjoyable when both the teacher and student approach it with a positive and hard-working attitude. We can both do our best to make it as fun and painless as possible!

Students should think about the areas of school that most frustrate them. These are usually the areas where they do not understand concepts as fully as needed to succeed in class. Students should focus on what topics specifically frustrate them and why. Then they can discuss the topic with their teacher and ask any questions related to it. If they cannot formulate any specific questions, they could even just expressed the fact that it is frustrating to them and why. This can allow their teacher to help them figure out what it is about the concept that they're missing. Students should also go into their studies with the thought of how a topic can relate to their own lives. When connecting topics to their personal lives, it is easier for students to understand and remember its concepts. If a student is unable to make these connections, the teacher can help them identify connections by asking questions to overcome that barrier.
