Iam a retired School administrator with over 35 years as a teacher, counselor and administratpr. I am a math major and have taught Middle school and High school Math for many years. Now as I am retired, I tutor elementary, middle school, and high school students in mathematics.  I have a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Masters of Art Degree in Secondary Education and School Counseling. Worked in Los Angeles Unified School District for over 35 years.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I like to met the student and assess their skills level and work habits. I like to assess the students learning styles and how they learn best.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and have taught High School and Middle School Mathematics. I turor students in elementary, middle school and high school mathematics on a weekly basis.  

How did you get started teaching?

I began my teaching career immediately upon gratuating from college in 1964. 

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with a diverse group of students throughout my educational career as a classroom teacher, school counselor and school administrator in a large metropolitian school district.  

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I worked with a student in 5th grade who was having problems with organization and not taking school seriously. After working through some difficult study habits and learning skills, she finished the school year very successfully.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

I would advise a student to be organized and assess his/her skills, be serious about learning and be prepared to do the work it takes to be successful. 

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

I would encourage the student to ask if he/she has put forth their best effort; idnetify the problem they perceive themselves having nd if they are open to receiving help to become successful.  Are they willing to do the work?
