About

As a former shipboard engineer aboard research vessels, I know how math applies to real life situations, and can make even the most basic arithmetic understandable!

I am now a classroom teacher with years of experience teaching high school level mathematics from Algebra 1 to Statistics and everything in between!

I graduated from the California Maritime Academy in 2013, and learned how to teach in the US Peace Corps a few years after that. My passion is for education-- I can't make you love math, but I can help make it less scary!

Hope to see you in the classroom!

I love working with students and getting them so used to thinking mathematically that something that seemed like a daunting challenge on day 1 becomes a walk in the park!

Math isn't evil! But one bad math teacher can ruin the subject forever; I'm here to undo that math hate and get you back on track!

She is truly on of the best math teachers that had ever taught me. She always brings a touch of humor or something fun about any boring topic we covered. Although math is not my favorite subject, her teaching made me like it a lot more and enjoy the class.

She was an amazing teacher. She is a very fun teacher and explains concepts thoroughly. If I didn’t understand a concept she would be more than glad to teach it again.

    Frequently asked questions

When I work with a new student I will start with a quick interview to find out where they're comfortable, and then a pretest in those areas to see how solid they are on that material. We can dial it forward or back from there.

Once we figure out our starting place, we need to talk about where we want to end up, and then figure out a good plan to fit in the student's timeline.

Every course is tailor-made for the student, so whatever goals you need to meet we can reach together!

I have a B.S. in Marine Engineering Technology and have been a classroom teacher in a middle and high school setting for four years.

Typically I charge $12/hr, but if you choose to work with me for multiple tutoring sessions, prices can be adjusted accordingly.

I joined the US Peace Corps in the Education sector. Over the course of my two years in peace corps I learned how to be an effective educator as well as realizing my love of teaching.

I've worked with highly advanced students who went on to attend ivy leagues, as well as english language learners who struggled with the concepts in their non-native tongue. I've worked with students who barely understood division and multiplication as well as students who were absolute pro's the first day in the classroom. I've worked with the entire range of students that exist, and am happy to work with new and exciting learning styles!

Recently I had my class of students draw something using nothing but the graphs we learned in Algebra 2. I expected maybe some boxy houses or a car but instead I got a dog in a santa hat, a t rex, butterflies, robots, I got all sorts of cool images! Students are so creative and talented it's wonderful to see them express themselves!

If you're working with a teacher who talks down to you, move on to the next one. Math isn't naturally aquired, it's learned through practice and patience. If you're looking for a qualified teacher to teach you, look for someone who isn't afraid to rephrase, to repeat themselves, and to push you to do your best.

Students should always ask themselves if they've given each problem a reall critical thinking through, or if they've just given up and want the teacher to walk them through it. It's tough to think through a problem! But the more time you spend trying to think through it, the more rewarding it is to your long term memory and math skills. That said, if you're stuck the teacher is definitely there to help!
