About this tutor

Tori Neko Tutoring is an independently run service with no hassle. All it takes is a phone call, a tutoring appointment, and we can figure out the rest from there.

One thing no one tells you is that in order for the master to be the master, she must always be the learner. Learning is essential to teaching. I've done it for a long enough time to show others the ropes. That's what I enjoy.

I've had a few sessions with Tori Neko Tutoring so far practicing my speaking. He is very personable, knowledgeable and passionate about helping people and I can immediately tell he loves what he does. We instantly connected so well on many levels starting from day one --- on our first session, he sat down and listened to my challenges and then came up with his own proposed approaches and tutoring sessions. Our subsequent sessions have always been fantastic and useful to me with many interesting variations. I can feel that he genuinely cares about my learning outcome. I am looking forward to seeing more of him and can't wait for many sessions to come!

I've had two mini tutor sessions with two different people in the past and Tori being my first tutor from Tutors.com by far exceeded my expectations. He is super nice and professional. He has an agenda for the session, a brief PPT, asked the right questions, presented the effective ways to write better, and gave me an assignment to help me improve. I can't wait for my next session because I truly believe that through time my writing will improve with his help!

I wasn't sure whether or not to trust this site at first but I was pleasantly surprised by Quito's approachable personality and friendly attitude. I will be using his services again.

He gave me the encouragement I needed to become more confident in my writing skills with his incredible patience and willingness to understand the way my brain learns.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

Tori Neko Tutoring expert Quito Barajas evaluates student learning barriers and strengths in order to maximize comprehension. The goal is to take an independence based model that encourages the student to do the thinking instead of the tutor. This way, the student learns through the tutor's guidance instead of rote instruction.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

4  years of university grade tutoring, a Bachelor's in English, and behavioral therapy certification through PearVue as an RBT for children with learning disabilities.

I'm also prepared to provide communication training I learned from world class sales experts at LGCY in order to help with oral presentations.

How did you get started teaching?

One of my college teachers recommended I tutor for my school due to my clear explanations. I take pride in my ability to help students surprass their learning objectives.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have conducted tutoring with students of all walks of life. I do not discriminate against your race, skin color, ethnicity, nationality, or whether or not you have a disability. It matters not. The most important person is you and your success.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I helped a foreign student overcome an obstacle with sentence structure. She was struggling until we sat down and deconstructed the components of a sentence. She went from a 68% on her last exam to an 83% on her next one.

Progress is one step at a time.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Make sure the tutor can honestly show you how he or she can help you with your specific tutoring needs. If it doesn't seem like a good fit, ask for a recommendation!

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

Please either list your phone number in your profile or call me directly at 619-947-2300 so we can discuss whether I have the power to help you with what you need.
