What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I usually begin by identifying what they need help with. This might be done through practice tests or verbally. Then, I will walk them through that skill step by step. Once they've learned the process, I assign practice for them and give feedback on how to improve along the way.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I was a tutor with Kumon and ran a middle school musical ensemble where I taught students how to play the marimba and other instruments.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching in middle school, helping my younger brother with his homework. In high school, I decided to apply for a job at Kumon because I felt like I had more knowledge than others my age.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from the ages of 5 to 14, teaching math, reading, and music.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What, specifically am I struggling with? What do I want my teacher to do to make it clearer?
