Liz: A Tutor

Hello! My name is Liz and I've been tutoring since 2014, primarily English but also math and other school school subjects. I've worked at a variety of educational centers, the last being J&R Learning Center in San Jose, where I designed and taught a supplementary reading program and helped students with their homework throughout the year. I also provided supplementary lessons to boost students in their weak areas as I examined their skills through their schoolwork. I have also been tutoring privately for a few years and have mentored numerous students.

In my private lessons, I like to find my students' weaknesses and address them through pinpoint practice while also boosting their other skills with a balanced lesson. I break the subject at hand down while also giving them notes to take home that address their particular needs. In particular, I specialize in teaching writing. I have helped students with countless school essays as well as helped them develop their overall understanding of the subject so they can continue to succeed. If students are on a supplementary course, I tend to create a curriculum for students based around source material like books, short stories, graphic novels, and even short films and youtube videos. I also enjoy integrating students' personal interests into lessons in order to increase engagement and improve knowledge retention.
