About

As a classroom teacher and current college student at UC Berkeley I understand both sides of the struggle. My tutoring service strives to create sustainable improvement towards educational goals by tackling the root of subject struggles instead of just addressing problems as they arise.

SAT: 1590 | UC Berkeley GPA: 3.85

The moments where students understand concepts they were struggling with, or feel confident enough to try something they would be reluctant to do in the past, are the ones that make me proud to teach. When done right, education provides students with a growth mindset that enables them to tackle any challenge set in front of them.

My son struggles with paying attention in class but came home from Tanya’s Camp Invention sessions over the summer excited about what he learned. I met with her to discuss if she could tutor him in science and she was very polite and helpful for her age. Since then she’s been meeting with him weekly and his teachers tell me he’s doing much better in the classroom. She is a college student so her rates are very reasonable and I’d recommend her to a friend.

My 3rd grader started working in Tanya’s classroom over the summer and his words per minute rose from 49 to 74 which was significant considering his difficulty with reading. He asked if she could keep tutoring him during the school year and she kept working with him online. I’m very happy with his progress and would recommend Tanya to anyone looking for a tutor.

Tanya worked with my rising junior during the summer to prepare her for the SAT and her score rose from 1360 to 1540. The first session was free so I could see how my daughter liked her and we decided on a payment plan after. Personally, I liked being able to request feedback on my daughters progress and having Tanyas help reduced my stress about her score.

Frequently asked questions

First I believe in creating a safe space for communication by getting to know the student's interests. This exercise is also helpful since interests can be incorporated into later curriculum to increase motivation. After I conduct a diagnostic to identify where students are finding issues, that information is used to develop a plan that can be shared with parents so they understand what each meeting will be about. From then on I can provide updates on student's progress and we will work together to reach their learning goals.

I have worked as a summer classroom teacher with ESL students for two years and as a summer aid for three years. My teaching subjects have included Language Arts, Science, and a specialized hands-on STEM curriculum called Camp Invention.

I have also tutored high school students for 2 years in AP subjects and for the SAT.
