About
Hi! My name is Naomi and I would love to work with you. I have my B.S. in Integrated Social Sciences from Penn State, and I have been working as a private tutor for 7 years. I specialize in middle and high school math, SAT and PSAT test prep, and college and graduate admissions essay coaching. Every student I work with is unique, and as a result I take the time to learn how each of my students process and absorb information. For example, with my math students, I will teach them several different ways to solve the same problem, and as I learn what methods work best for my students, I will tailor their sessions to reflect that information. I work with students with various learning challenges, and I always aim to offer a supportive and encouraging environment where my students can learn at their own pace. You can reach me at: [email protected]. Below are the different services I offer.
For Math Students:
I specialize in working with middle school and high school math ranging from pre-Algebra to pre-calculus. My students fall into 3 categories:
1) Students who are behind and need to catch up.
2)Students who are up to speed, but need more personalized instruction than is offered in class.
3)Students who want to advance past their class or a full grade level.
I offer summer intensive tutoring schedules that allow students to catch up a full math level or skip a math level. Less rigorous schedules are also available for those looking to keep skills up for the summer and begin to explore new material that will be covered in their fall courses.
In our first consultation, we will work together to discern what category you student falls into and what support they need, and then we will create an action plan to reach your goals. I offer a free 30 minute trial session to each of my new students to see if we are a good fit. After the trial session, I offer 30 minute and 45 minute sessions.
For Test Preparation Students:
Depending on the test you need assistance with, I create powerpoints drawing from complete study guides to address each type of question as well as the content that may arise on your test. Each week, we review several sections of material (For example: in a given Math SAT week we might cover 3 -4 sections such as Mean/Median/Mode, Probability, Arrangements, Growth and Decay) and then walk through practice problems on the information we covered. If the student has a strong grasp on the material, we may move through two powerpoints each session. If they are struggling, we will focus on more practice so they can gain confidence in their work and understanding. I offer a free 30 minute trial session. My test prep sessions are offered in increments of 45 minutes, 1 hour, or 1.25 hours.
For College and Admissions Essays:
I work with my students to plan out the content for their admissions essays. We work to craft pieces that are engaging and on topic. My goal is to maintain your voice while still maintaining proper grammar and fluidity. I specialize in the personal essay, and my own writing has been published in the Reclaim Magazine. I offer a free 30 minute consultation, followed by a quote that varies depending on the number of essays you wish to consult on.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When it comes to a new student, I first begin by finding out what specific goals they have, and in what area they need help. After that we begin to work through their studies first with me explaining material/helping to practice the material, and then once we feel comfortable with that I have the student try the work on their own to make sure that they know how to complete the assignment. It is different for each student depending on how they learn, and I tailor each tutoring session to each individual.
For my new students, I conduct an intial assessment based on their grade level and any information provided before the lesson. I used this to figure out what to areas they need additional assitance in, and we proceed with lessons based on that information.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a private math tutor for 5 years, and I am currently a substitute teacher covering kindergarten through seniors in highschool.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I currently offer services working with students in math, SAT prep, and College/Graduate admissions essays. Both my Math and SAT tutoring are an hourly rate, and my Admissions Essays are a flat rate per page of essay along with a revision review.
