About this tutor

Every student learns differently. When I teach, it's important that I adapt my teaching style to each student's learning style. That is my teaching philosophy.

Teaching has always been a passion of mine, and I've found ways to do it (officially and unofficially) since middle school. Throughout my years at UC Berkeley, I discovered new spaces to teach and took every opportunity that I could to help peers through teaching assistant positions in my university's biology department. Now, as a medical student, my peers and I learn together. As I learn the skills that I need to become a physician, I make myself available on websites like this one to pass on knowledge in ways that I wish someone would've done for me when I was younger.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

After understanding the student's needs via communication on Tutors.com, we can get started right away on Zoom!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I was a competitive debater for four years before college, studied molecular and cellular biology while in university at UC Berkeley, and am now pursuing a medical degree.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

My pricing is flexible and I often accommodate the budget of my client. Teaching is what I'm here for and I'll do everything I can to make it affordable for you. That being said, please include a budget when making a request and be honest about what you are able to afford! Remember you'll be helping out a medical student with loans :)

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I spent the last couple of months working at a dermatology clinic in my hometown. One busy day, the waiting room was full, and two elderly individuals who coincidentally had the same name began speaking with each other after I had accidentally mistaken one of them for the other. This little error resulted in them having a long, heartwarming conversation about their families while in the waiting room. It made me quite happy!

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Make sure you hire a tutor who listens to your needs and adapts to your style of learning. I like to remember that every student learns differently. One method may work with one student and be counterproductive with another. Find a tutor who, not only knows the content well but also knows how to teach it to YOU specifically!

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

What subject do you need tutoring for?

On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your level of understanding of this subject in general?

What are your educational goals, in regards to that subject?

What learning style works best for you? For example, do you prefer having a list of questions beforehand that you can discuss with your tutor during the session, or do you prefer that the tutor focuses on a specific topic during each session, asking questions as they come up? Both? Or, would you prefer to figure this out with your tutor? If you answered 'yes' to the previous question, we can definitely figure it out :)

Finally, how often do you need tutoring (Ex: 2 days a week), and what is your budget?
