Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
If you need a tutor for a left-behind student, I first do an assessment, to see where we are.
Then we start building with the help of workbooks, worksheets, discussions, offering examples, problematizing.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a former Romanian teacher in Elementary school (multiple subjects) and High-School (I taught French and English languages).
I have graduated the 5 years Pedagogical High-School, in Targoviste, Romania.
I have a BA in Foreign Languages at the University of Bucharest, Romania (speciality: French and English languages).
I have an MA in Advertising at National School of Political Science and Public Administration, Bucharest, Romania.
I am an authorized translator and interpreter for Romanian, French, and English languages (by Romanian Justice Ministry).
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
1 to 1 lessons - $40/hour
How did you get started teaching?
My family has a tradition in teaching. My mom was an Elementary school teacher, my sister teaches French, so I had great models in front of me all the time.
I started teaching in high-school to Preschool and Elementary school students, as part of a certain number of training teaching hours we were supposed to do.
What types of students have you worked with?
I started as a First grade teacher, and years later, after graduating from University of Bucharest (Foreign Languages section), I taught French and English to high-school pupils.
As a private tutor, I have been helping with Math and Language Arts, in Romanian, French, and English.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I volunteer every week to my daughters' classes, helping the class with Reading and Writing groups. The light I see in kids' eyes every time I discuss and explain things to them, that really makes me happy. And the teachers always compliment me, saying I am born to be a teacher. That really makes me happy.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
My advise would be "Work hard, but also have fun when learning. Try to link old and new information, make connections, expand your horizons and don't be afraid to express yourself."
