About

My approach is student-centric, collaborating with each individual to identify and focus on goals that they perceive as essential for their own success. I aim to foster student investment in their learning so that they may work toward accomplishments that are meaningful to them. Authentic mastery occurs as concepts are practically applied beyond simple coursework, so as much as possible, I illustrate subject material by directly relating it to areas that are of particular interest to students. This connection leads to active student engagement and strongly retained learning.

I enjoy getting to know my students on an individual level and understanding what life dreams and vocational interests they have even beyond the academic realm. I also am truly rewarded by seeing students realize achievements that they thought were impossible.

Frequently asked questions

When initially working with a student, I prefer to start by talking with them to get to know them and understand their strengths, challenges, and goals. If possible, I also like to review some of their past work to see if there are any identifiable gaps in prior knowledge that need to be resolved. While I do include parents in the conversation, I try to make sure the student’s voice is clearly heard in the process, focusing on their specific needs to determine what approach will most benefit them and lead to an effective educational journey.
I have a bachelor's of science degree in mechanical engineering from UC Irvine and over five years of tutoring experience instructing math, science, and test prep in a small group setting.
Standard Subjects: $45-60 per hour Honors/AP Subjects: $55-75 per hour College Level: $65-90 per hour Individual prices are based on subject, lesson frequency, and type of tutoring (in person or virtual). Discount packages are also available.
After a few years of contract engineering work, I took on a part-time test prep tutoring position at a tutoring center to fill in the gaps between positions. I quickly learned that I had a passion for education, and I enjoyed working with students so much that it became my full-time job.
I have worked with a diverse student population from third graders to undergraduate college students. My primary work has been with high-school students, but I have experience with a wide range of ages and ability levels.
Make sure your teacher listens to you and is genuinely interested in knowing what interests you. They should collaborate with you on goals and attend to what you most want to accomplish. Your teacher should be intentional about discovering your learning style and determining what works best for you. They should be willing to modify an approach that is not working well and adapt to your educational needs. Of course, they should also have proven expertise in your subject area.
How do I best learn (repetition, hands-on practice, listening, watching, etc.)? When do I find myself most paying attention and when do I find myself most zoning out? What do I find most difficult in learning the subject I am wanting to work on? What has worked well for me in past learning and what has not worked well? What kind of topics or information do I remember best? What do I most want to accomplish in my work with a tutor? When am I most anxious and when am I most confident?
