About
I am a special education teacher who is devoted to teaching. One of the many reasons I am passionate about teaching is the process of assisting my students to reach their academic and social goals. My love for reading started when I was a kid and has continued as and adult. Teaching reading is rewarding because I am able to share my passion with kids and see them grow and love reading. As a teacher I believe building relationships is the key to success with every child and feel it is important to have those relationships to use student interests into teaching to make learning fun and engaging.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start with getting to know the student:student interests, things they like about school, things they don’t like about school, goals they have. Next, I do assessments to find out their present academic levels and what areas they need explicit instruction. Then I create explicit and specially designed lessons for that student and incorporate interests to make sure the student is engaged while learning.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have worked in schools with students for 5 years and have been a special education teacher for 3 years. For 3 summers I have done tutoring and/or worked/taught kids with disabilities through Milwaukee Recreation.
