About
I am an English Teacher with a different twist. While I'm very well-versed in English (Business English, writing, grammar, vocabulary, reading, pronunciation, handwriting, including ESL), I focus on my students' interests, passions, and strengths to build their comfort and proficiency in American English. And we have FUN with it!! I include exercises doing PowerPoint, public speaking, conversation, memorization, goal-setting, and even art to help students enjoy learning. Each student's class materials are customized to them and their learning style. To know more about me, feel free to check out my social media: (15) Sandi MacCalla | LinkedIn; (15) LifeSkills Academy: Company Page Admin | LinkedIn.
I hope to meet and work with you in making English amazing, fun and empowering.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to have some background on them, how they learn, what goals/targets they are seeking; so I generally ask them to begin by verbally and in writing to tell me their story: best adventures, favorites, dream(s).
I like to make the classes very practical so that their success rate is fast and high.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have taught children and adults on the topics I'm most skilled in: English (writing, speaking), social manners, etiquette, business practices (legal, management, sales, marketing, staffing, community development, Board of Directors practices, et al).
My education has been specific to the work I'm involved with and has varied from 3 years college, industry trainings, skills workshops, Etiquette Certification, Association Management Certification(s).
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
For Tutors.com classes, I charge market rates.
How did you get started teaching?
Being the first-born, I'd say I've been learning and teaching all of my life. My business style for marketing/sales was always from the vantage point of a consultant. As a leader of staff/corporate entities, I have developed operating processes, hired & trained staff and been responsible for developing staff support/fulfillment.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have taught students from 5 years old through senior-aged.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I just this past week launched a 3 week class for students at a "children's prison" on social success. Of recent date, I've been called to teach etiquette classes to elementary grades. The reason I was excited about this week's class launch is that I saw immediate results with teen-aged boys. It was quite energizing!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Often, it seems that students believe that they don't have a need to prepare for their future. What I've seen is that success teeters on the degree of preparation; which means the better prepared, the better the success.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
As a famous thought leader - Stephen Covey - stated: "Begin with the end in mind." If a student knows the target they are interested in, it makes the journey flow smoother and faster. If it turns out the target changes in the process, it's because a better target was just behind their initial goal. Everything else from there falls into place. It's not complicated!
