I have five years of professional tutoring experience, and I hold a dual B.A. from Seattle University. I have worked professionally as a tutor for a University Writing Center, a private Test Prep & Tutoring Center, and a nonprofit Tutoring Center for disadvantaged kids.
ENGLISH: My specialties in English Language Arts include academic essays and research papers (middle school, high school, college), personal statements, thesis and argument development, sentence-level revision, MLA, APA, and Chicago Citation Styles. I also tutor Test Prep for ACT and SAT English, Reading, and Essay sections. If you want to get better at Reading, Writing, and Grammar at any level, I'm here to help!
SPANISH: I studied Spanish up to an AP Spanish Literature level in high school, and received a 5 on the Spanish Literature and Culture AP Exam. In 2015, I lived with a Chilean family in Viña del Mar, Chile. While in Chile, I attended classes in Spanish at the local university (Universidad Viña del Mar) where I studied Spanish Language and Linguistics, Latin American Literature, and Modern Latin American Politics. I am qualified to teach beginning and intermediate Spanish, up to the AP level. I am also excited to work with adults who are learning the language for the first time!
As a tutor, I use an approach that is more collaborative than instructive. Every student is different, and I am interested in making each writer's individual talents and ideas shine.
My style of tutoring is individualized and student-centered. This means that every session looks different, because no two students learn in exactly the same way. As I get to know your learning style, you'll find that tutoring gets more and more helpful, as we work together to identify your particular strengths and challenges. If it doesn't feel like a good fit, no problem! This is an exchange, which means it should be helpful for you, and fun for both of us.

First, I meet with a student for a trial session, which is mostly about assesing your comfort with the subject matter. We'll talk about your strengths and challenges and come up with a plan. If you're working on an essay or project, we'll make a strategy for completing your assignment. If not, I may assign optional homework to help you practice key skills. Then, at the next session, we talk about how the first week went and how to improve.
