Everything English

I would like to know exectly what the problem areas are for them. I don't want to teach something that they already know. I like to know where they struggle before starting.

I taught high school English at Tucson High Magnet School before moving to Washington. I have also tutored college-age students with learning disabilities at the University of Arizona. I have a Master of Education as a reading specialist for secondary education.

I don't have a standard price. It varies from $30-60 per hour, depending on how extensively I need to tutor the student.

I started as a tutor while attending college in 2003. I had planned to go into another profession. I started at a long-term substitute teacher at Tucson High Magnet School. I realized that I liked working with students so I began my teacher training for certification. The next year, the school needed a full-time English teacher and called me. I became a contracted teacher at that point.

I have taught students in grades 9-12 and worked at learning centers with students in elementary and high school. I have also worked with college students and adult learners. Some were second language learners who needed elementary learning, although they were young adults and older individuals.

There are so many. I am working on my teaching certification for the state of Washington. I have been working as a substitute teacher until I have all I need for the state's approval. I substituted in an ELL class at the local high school. I had to teach some. One student who had only been in this country a few month was grateful that I knew the  subject and not just another sub. He and other students in that class were happy to have me explain things to them. I still get greeted by the students when I go to the school. It's nice to see that a difference was made.

I would tell them to find a teacher that cares about you as a person and not just someone who knows the subject. 

I would tell students to think about what they specifically need. You don't want to tell a person that you need help with English. It's a broad subject. You need to give the teacher a direction in which to point.
