In high school I helped my math teacher start a computer science program at our school. I spent two summers counseling at the Young Hacks Academy coding camp for elementary schoolers. I won the Vermont Math Coalition Talent Search. 2360 SATs (back when it was out of 2400!). Standardized tests are a lot more about theory of mind than most test-takers realize. Intentional practice and iterating on practice exams is key.
Teaching is about remembering your own learning journey, and being a lifelong learner yourself. Way too many teachers have forgotten what it was like when they didn't know the material, or don't actively continue to learn new things, which is super necessary in order to have an active understanding of what learning feels like and how to make it happen.
