McLane Tutoring
About
I assist students with Math, English, History, Executive Functioning and Study Skills. I have tutored students for over 15 years, ranging in age from 5 to 45, although most clients have been in middle or high school. I owned a successful business in Potomac, MD before relocating to Vermont. I currently work part time for a local education center, however they do not offer services during evenings or weekends.
My approach to tutoring is flexible, helping students with their most prioritized need and meeting them at whatever academic level they are. I expect my students to not only learn specific subject matter, but also to learn keys to academic success generally, including taking responsibility for learning, accurate self evaluations and appropriate time management.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I begin with finding out what the student wants to get out of our time together, and discuss how I like to work with students and what my expectations are, both for us as a team as well as both of us individually.
I conduct an informal assessment of current skill level and identify a discreet issue we can work on during the first meeting, to show that the time spent together is worthwhile and to have the student feel a sense of accomplishment.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a J.D in addition to an undergraduate degree from top schools. I have had on the job training for 15 years, managing a tutoring business with up to 15 employees, 5 of whom were full time. I myself have tutored for 15-25 hours weekly since 2001.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $40/hour for single appointments that take place in my home. I charge $75/hour for appointments where I meet the student at any other location due to travel time.
I require 24 hours cancellation notice, but do not require clients to commit to a specific number of appointments. If a client is interested in a long term agreement (i.e. more than 30 hours), discounts can be discussed.
