About this tutor

I help build confidence in reluctant and struggling writers. I meet your child on their current level and work with them to improve their writing.

Writing was never my strong suit. It always felt like a formula I couldn't figure out. I had to gain confidence in my abilities before I could find joy in it. And with my enjoyment came a drastic increase in my writing abilities.

Tutoring writing allows me to find and nurture the enjoyment of writing in your student. I love helping my students gain confidence in their writing abilities.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

When I first start working with a student, I like to establish rapport. I accomplish this by taking the time to get to know the student: their likes, dislikes, struggles, goals, and dreams. By doing so, I am able to instill confidence in my student which will give them the best opportunity to learn during our tutoring sessions.

I also will assess the student's current level through a series of exercises. This will give me a baseline of your child's abilities and will set the tone for our upcoming sessions.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a Bachelor's in English and have been tutoring for over 10 years.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

$25 for a 30-minute lesson.

$50 for a 1-hour lesson

How did you get started teaching?

I began teaching while I was attending college. I would go into local middle and high schools to assist students in their learning. My passion for personalized, 1-on-1 teaching has only grown since.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with a diverse set of students ranging from pre-kindergarten to high school. My previous students' abilities have also varied, ranging anywhere from only needing a bit of guidance to needing complete support.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

If you need an English/writing tutor, you would benefit greatly from "testing out" several tutors. In this subject area, teaching styles vary greatly. Testing out a few who meet your minimum requirements will allow you to find the one that works well with your learning style.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

Can you pinpoint where you're struggling? What negative feelings or connotations do you have towards English or writing? What are your goals for tutoring?
