I am a VA certified teacher (PK-6) in my 16th year of teaching. I also have my masters degree in Leadership in Math Education which certifies me to teach Math for K-8.
The majority of my teaching career has been in 5th/6th grade math. Additionally, I have been privately tutoring students in grades 4-9 in various concepts of math for 10+ years.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I prefer to tutor in 1 hour sessions. During this time, we work on any current assignments that are due, study for upcoming assessments, review material, preview concepts coming up (if time allows), and learn new strategies to work on comprehension and retention.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I typically charge $35/hour, but I am open to negotiations if necessary.
How did you get started teaching?
I've wanted to be a teacher since I was in the 2nd grade! I've always known I wanted to teach. I graduated with my Bachelor's in Education and never looked back!
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked in both private and public school settings and have worked with a wide variety of learners. I have worked with varying students who with a wide array of backgrounds and advantages and disadvantages.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a teacher who has a passion for what he or she does! I love teaching and, more specifically, I love teaching Math and that shows with my students. I do all that I can to gain their trust and excitement for learning and any teacher with passion will do the same!
