I have over 10 years' teaching and tutoring mathematics, both in a school environment as well as one on one. I've also authored a course about the history of mathematics (it will eventually be a book), and have taught that course in high schools. Finally, I have over 30 years of business experience, where I used mathematics constantly in order to get the job done. This is particularly useful when the students ask, "what will I use this for?"

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I typically start with a diagnostic exam, to identify the areas where there's need for improvement, especially to find out what was missed in the past that's creating confusion. Upon cleaning up past issues, I then proceed to move forward with what's needed to not only keep up with the class, but to anticipate later work.
