I am sensitive to the needs of a child with a child-centered approach. It is important to understand the interests of a child and cultivate that curiosity.
I work with parents to understand how to support their children. When setting goals it is crucial to look in the future, and for every child, it is different. Some parents may focus on computational skills, some on reading and comprehension. Children are eager to learn and obtain information. I create an environment to promote freedom of choice where children feel valued.
I also work with adults where I introduce them to various strategies that they choose that work better for them.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I usually start by talking to parents or family members. It is very important to build a relationship. I start by assessing a child to understand his or her current level, finding books and materials that may be helpful. I am flexible with the schedules and needs of families. I like to receive feedback from both parents and children.
