About this tutor

Hello! I'm Anne, and I'm an undergraduate tutor from Virginia with 4+ years of tutoring experinece.

I have enjoyed tutoring students in college essay writing (students admitted to MIT, Duke, etc.), English, ESL, global studies, SAT prep, in math up through AP Calculus, and more!

-Top 1% SAT score out of 8 million test-takers that year, AP Scholar with Distinction, taken 9 APs, Echols Scholar, National Merit Commended

-Training in ESOL teaching and experience working as an ESOL Adult Literacy tutor for Loudoun Literacy

-Recieved Department of State NSIL-Y scholarship to serve as a youth ambassador to China, study mandarin, and work on a music and culutural theory project

-Perusing research with PhD fellow

-Have professional working proficiency in Spanish

What's Included?

-Personalized lessons

-Customized study guides, prep resources

-Analysis of test results, overall strenths + challenges

-Tips and tricks from my recent experiences as a student

Why me?

-1-1 sessions: I don't do group lessons because students learn best when they are comfortable to ask questions and can get the most individualized instruction

-Customized resources: prepare a folder of lessons, analysis, and resources curated to fit the needs of the individual studnet

-Flexible scheduling: will work to fit Your scheduling needs, same day response--always

I'm a firm beliver that learning should enrich your life--always.

Unfortunately, that can be a challenge with the current pressures of being a student.

Working with students on developing/following an organized gameplan to achieve their goals so that they can breathe and find confidence and joy in learning is, conversely, a joy to witness.

Further, one of the biggest things that K-12--and even most undergrad education--lacks is dialogue between those in the roles of student and teacher.

I love creating a space for students to find and voice their opinions, concerns, questions, and musings about the things they learn.

Anne is very intellectually passionate, which is really helpful when studying with/being taught by her. She pushes herself to learn for the sake of learning and her passion is contagious. When studying a topic with Anne, I can’t help but feel more attached to the subject and want to dig into it as deep as she does. No doubt an excellent tutor.

Anne helped me achieve my first Pass Advanced ever on my reading final exam and helped make math interesting for the first time. I am a more confident student and person throughout our work together and cannot recommend her highly enough.

Anne is an insightful, focused, and diligent teacher. Her sharp commentary and enriched video calls for my college essays were integral to my writing. She's the type that really reads into what students are looking for in lessons and provides meaningful, actionable advice. If you want a person that is communicative, effective, and welcoming -- this is the one.

How did you get started teaching?

I started tutoring ESOL as a volunteer teacher in the Adult Literacy program at Loudoun Literacy and math and chemistry through a pre-professional health honor society and loved it so much that I decided to move into general private tutoring!

What types of students have you worked with?

Throughout my 4+ years of experience, I have worked with adults learning English as a second language, middle and high schoolers preparing for the SAT/PSAT, students writing college admissions essays, undergraduates studying English, and students seeking support in their general k-12 coursework.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Spend some time thinking about what teaching styles have worked well for you in the past. Sometimes the teacher with the most qualifications isn't the best choice. Make sure your teacher is a good personal fit--do you leave feeling more confident? excited about the subject? I believe that learning should be a wholly enriching process, not just a means to an end.
