About
In addition to the subject matter being studied, I examine students' learning styles and attempt to match my teaching to individuals' modes of learning. I also work to strengthen the ways in which students study, so that time spent on assignments becomes more productive.
I enjoy building and maintaining relationships with young people.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to spend some time getting to know the student -- how he/she spends time, favorite activities, feelings about school and learning in general, feelings about math, plans for the future. We then begin to focus on any problem the student is experiencing with studies and the ways in which the student thinks tutoring might help. By the end of the first session, I select one topic that may be confusing for the student, offer alternative ways of thinking about the relevant skills, then usea few sample problems to check on the student's understanding. I work toward making the student aware how tutoring can help.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I earned my bachelor's degree at the University of Chicago, a master's at Harvard, and an MBA in finance back at Chicago. I am one course short of a master's in eduction at the University of Virginia. My first teaching experience was at a private school in Honolulu. Since then, all my experience has been in Virginia -- Fairfax, Shenandoah, and Warren Counties. I have been tutoring students since 2015. I have no written recommendations, since I have transfered registration from another tutoring site. However, I can provide names and telephone numbers of people who can tell you about my abilities.
