In my 28 years as an educator, I have taught kindergarten, 1st grade, served as the campus ESL Facilitator, and have spent the last five years as the Elementary Math Specialist for my school. Learning math is not simply learning facts. Being fast at facts does not determine your math ability. True excellence in mathematics requires that you think, reason, and use relationships to solve increasingly more complex problems. If you are willing to play around with numbers and learn from mistakes in that journey, then you are well on your way to becoming a stronger mathematician.
