Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to start with an in-person, or first-time online tutoring session, assessment. I will watch the kid try the problems, or kind of task, note where he struggles, try teaching, and do various other things in the time to determine 1) learning style, 2) exact areas of weakness.
I will use that to design a custom lesson plan to address the "roots" of his struggle, teach in the way fit to his learning style. I like to assign homework/extra work so they can learn it better by practicing it the right way. I require kids to take notes, which sometimes has been the reason for his struggle, not the academic itself. I help in other ways based on my findings in the assessment and talking to parents/adult students to ultimately create the best plan for that individual. No such thing as "one fits all."
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Masters of Science in Accounting
Bachelor's of Science in Accounting

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My rate is generally $35/$45 an hour. I only meet students at certain public settings in Katy, or online.
Occasionally, I will meet elsewhere, which is rare, but it will require a travel fee that is the equivalent of an uber ride to the location and back.
As far as prices, the assessment is the same rate as the regular tutoring would/will be. There is not a difference in them so if it fits the parents' budget, any help will be affordable.
The lower rates are for those who agree to a 12-month contract or 6-month contract.
How did you get started teaching?
I was in high school, in 10th grade, in special education courses because of what was decades later found to be high function autism, and PTSD, but was in the Top 3% of the Nation in academics. My special education teachers started sending me every Friday to the elementary school to teach the elementary special education students. They thought the best teachers/tutor/motivators for special education kids were those who, like me, were ones themselves and successful. I fell in love with it.
What types of students have you worked with?
SPECIAL EDUCATION:
-high function autism
-epileptics
-ADD/ADHD
-Dyslexics
-anxiety
-maybe more I do not recall
GENERAL POPULATION:
-adults student and none student learners (computer skills, job training, GED, getting into formal training, college courses etc)
-K-12 grades and ages
-youngest of 2 years old (count, word site, colors etc)
-high school dropouts (college, GED, etc)
-new hires (job training)
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Step 1) Read everything you can about him/her or the company
Step 2) Check reviews or other places on the web to see what others have said about him/her or the company
Step 3) Ask the tutor questions you already know the answer and test what they say, to be honest, and knowledged -think of it as a test, if they fail this one, how do you know what they teach that you do not know will be accurate? (rather lack of knowledge or dishonesty it is not what you are after)
Step 4) try them out but on the first day pay attention to/ask about what they noticed, their plan of action, how involved they want to be with the parent (such as keeping parents updating on what happens and kids' progress) are they passionate. . etc
TIP: THe best tutors/teachers are passionate about what they do and go the extra mile without additional pay or other motivation/reason. It is not unusual for those that are the best have credentials in other areas. Anyone's strongest area, with or without formal training, is where they are passionate/care. The more someone cares about something is the more they will want to learn and improve about/at it.
