What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I first would like to understand the exact needs of my students, so I would most likely message or conference call them to ask specifics on what they would like to work on. I also enjoy understanding the personality of the student I teach so that I can tailor my teaching. Learning online can be quite impersonal, so I try to avoid that by engaging the student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am currently a university student studying mechanical engineering-- a STEM field. Thus, while I do not yet have an advanced degree, my recent graduation from high school enables me to connect better with students, as the struggles I faced in high school are still very vivid in my mind. Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
While I do not have a standard pricing system for my lessons, rest assured that I am flexible and will offer fair prices. Instead of offering a flat rate, I prefer to base my rate on several factors such as the needs of the student, repeat customer status, time of day, difficulty of subject matter, among others.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
My advice is quite simple, find a tutor that you can relate to and enjoy learning from.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I think the biggest thing that helped me start planning out my life was setting appropriate and attainable goals. I believe that a similar mindset is necessary to get the most out of any tutoring lessons. Tutoring will not guarantee a 100 in any class, but rather exists to try and fix the underlying issues that prevent students from succeeding.
